Thanks to Dr Shaista Shameem for articulating so clearly (FS 30/7) what many of the general populace have thought and felt about our rights and that of future generations to our national resource – water from the water table – being commercialised by some smart profiteers. Consultation with the Fiji Human Rights Commission should have been done by the relevant parliamentarians and civil servants before the first water bottling company was given the green light but once again we have to play catch up because some had been sleeping on the job. They could learn a thing or two from an alert Dr Shameem.
