Written By : Ratu Jona Saukuru. TPAF has done Fiji proud on training and staff development initiatives through its inception.
This has resulted to development of Fiji’s labour market in trade, commerce, government and private sector establishments.
I suggest that in its review of the criteria for large companies in Fiji, TPAF include as an addition to the ten criteria this clause: “That all companies should authentically develop local labour to international standard, and this be evidenced through reports, certification, experience exposition received in the incumbents’ career achievements.”
We do not do enough to monitor lack of local labour expertise in comparison with equivalent counterparts from Australia and New Zealand. International companies should be made responsible to train and develop local people, and not re-hire expatriates, whose positions could be given to locals available.
What better returns for TPAF and the government to have more internationally experienced and certified local labour?
