Devotees mark 30 hours of non-stop prayer

image Written By : FIJI SUN NEWSROOM. Two women prayed for 30 hours without moving from their positions.
Divya Deo and Vinuka Reddy were among 800 people who participated in the Akhand Ramayan Mul Paath at the weekend.
The 30 hours of prayer, a first for Viti Levu, was organised by the Muanivatu Sanatan Dharam Ram Mandir at Laucala Bay Road in Suva.
Secretary Sada Reddy said the two women did not move from their sitting positions.
“They were sitting at the same spot for more than 24 hours, they just continued to pray and the only way a person can last that long is through divine intervention,” he said.
Mr Reddy said the women were aged 45 and 48 years. “Imagine just sitting in the same spot for more than 24 hours with no food or water,” he said.
“We were just so happy for them. It’s a great thing when two ladies can sit there for that long.”
Mr Reddy said the temple’s disciplined approach contributed to the big turnout and the amazing feats.
“We do everything to time, there is no grog, we do not allow smoking and everyone has to be clean if they want to enter the temple,” he said.
The non-stop 30 hours singing of Ramayan verses began at 6.30am on Saturday and ended with a Maha Yagn at midday yesterday. Mr Reddy thanked members who gave up their time to conduct prayers. “It is a big task to organise something like this and we may have the next one in five years,” he said.
