Written By : MACIU MALO. It was a sweet revenge for Malolo Ritesh Gounder after knocking out Ajmat Manna in the second round of their Junior Bantamweight fight staged by Sigatoka Motor Spares Wild West Boxing Promotion in Nadi over the weekend.
Gounder, who lost to Manna earlier, bounced back in style to win his first boxing title.
The sole bread winner in the family of four brothers, two sisters said he’s happy to make his family proud.
He said hard work has paid off after sacrificing the last two months training.
“I have put in a lot of effort preparing for this fight and I’m glad to win my first title,” Gounder said.
“Manna’s points win in our last fight inspired me to win and knocking him down was my initial plan.
“I was hungry for a win and I’m glad to have made my family proud.”
Gounder has dedicated his first title win to his family who has been there through the highs and lows of his boxing career.
“I’m the sole bread winner in my family, my dad has passed away leaving me with my mum, four brothers and two sisters,” he said.
“My family has played a huge role in my win today and I dedicate this title to my loved ones.”
Gounder said his next aim was to fight against an international boxer.
Meanwhile, in other bouts Navosa boxer Abhay Chand defeated Serea’s Jone Naleca in split points decisions while Jnr Narayan Singh knocked out Parmod Pillay in the second round.
Krishneel Mudalliar won on points over Mohammed Khan while his brother knocked out Jnr Rocky Kumar.
Nasolo’s Jnr Naivogo also knocked out Ronald Singh in the sixth round.
