Kia’s exciting Sportage SUV has kicked another goal in the awards season with a win in the SUV under AUD$40,000 (under F$75,000) category at the prestigious Drive awards in Australia. The experienced panel of judges from the respected Drive and Drive.com media group put the all-new Kia Sportage at the top of one of the most crowded and competitive segments in the Australian motoring landscape. “We have always believed that the Sportage is an exceptional car, but to have this independent recognition from such a respected body is a wonderful verification of our belief,” said Kia Motors Australia CEO, Mr MK Kim. “The Sportage, like all of the cars coming from Kia, is the end product of a great deal of work and dedication by everybody within Kia Motors. This recognition is shared by all of us.” Accepting the award in Melbourne, Kia Motors Australia Chief Operating Officer, Mr Tony Barlow said: “You don’t build and launch new cars with awards in mind, but to receive an award such as this is a strong indication that what you are doing is ticking the right boxes.” The all new 2011 Kia Sportage, has now arrived in Fiji, and available from Kia Motors showroom located in the corner of Grantham Road and Carpenter Street at Garden City, Raiwai. The award winning Sportage is a shining example of the marriage of form and function with headturning styling from Kia’s global design team, led by head designer Peter Schreyer and penned at the company’s Los Angeles Design Studio by Massimo Frascella. The all new 2011 Sportage is being most talked about its unique exterior design having a spacious interior, in addition to the latest technology features including the Bluetooth being a standard across the new Sportage range. New safety features include Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with a new Rollover Sensor, Hillstart Assist Control (to prevent rollback when starting on an incline and roll-forward when reversing up a slope in reverse with the manual transmission) and Downhill Control (to limit speed during a steep descent). Mr. Madhu Tappoo, CEO & Executive Director of Tappoo Group of companies which owns and represents Kia Motors in Fiji, said it is very exciting and overwhelming to see Kia win a double whammy –a feat he believes is unparalleled by any other car manufacturer to date. “Kia truly lives up to its slogan – “the power to surprise”, and has indeed pleasantly surprised the car industry worldwide, said Mr. Tappoo. 2011 Kia Sorento had just won the best SUV over AUD40000 (F$75000) and now the 2011 Kia Sportage takes home the best SUV under AUD$40000 Award.
