A State of Natural Disaster has been declared in some parts of the Western Division, those worst affected by flooding.
Permanent Secretary for Natural Disaster Management, Lieutenant-Colonel Inia Seruiratu said the call was made after the Government thoroughly assessed areas that had been flooded.
“With the improved conditions, the Government is now heading into the next phase of the weather event in which this decision is being made,” he said.
“As you know, Government leaders and emergency services have been assessing whether to make this call since yesterday (Wednesday).
His comments came as Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said yesterday the Government would help all those affected by the floods.
