Tourists were not affected by the flooding in the Western Division says, Attorney-General and Minister for Tourism Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
“In fact Ba has been worse hit than Nadi. I don’t know about Rakiraki in terms of the impact of the flooding.
“The good news is that none of the resorts situated along the areas that were affected by the flooding sustained any damages,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
He said while Tourism Fiji, and other stakeholders worked round the clock to ensure safety of the tourists, local and international tourists were not harmed in any way during the three days of flooding in the Western Division.
“As we can see from Nadi, shops have already began operating normally again, and tourists continue to enjoy spending time on the beach and are also taking advantage of the water sports activities in the resorts and hotels located in the Western Division,” he said.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said while many overseas media had tried to raise negative comments about Fiji during the flooding, he acknowledged travellers for ignoring those remarks.
“I would like to acknowledge the fact that most tourists have shown confidence in the system. Unfortunately some overseas media tried to portray Fiji as an unsafe place to travel to during this flood, but that did not work.
“I acknowledge that many of the seasonal travellers have realised that their travels have not been completely been affected,” he said.
