‘Expect more from Air Pac’

By MERE NALEBA

Members of the travelling public, especially those who travel with Air Pacific, should expect more changes in store for the coming years, says Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
He made the comment last night as he announced that the international carrier would commission three new A330-220s for service next year.
Commodore Bainimarama gave this assurance to guests at the AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards 2011.
The aircraft will come into service in March, May and September next year. “The new aircraft will also mean refreshing the brand of the national carrier,” the Prime Minister said.
“It is imperative that the national carrier fleet and operations is modernised and supported by all Fijians, because the success of a sustained tourism sector in our island country is dependent on a viable and true national carrier.”
Apart from the new aircraft announcement, Commodore Bainimarama also made other announcements on developments scheduled to happen soon.
“The iconic Grand Pacific Hotel is set to open its doors towards the end of the next year with a new 600-seat Convention Centre, adding a new dimension to Suva as a destination with the availability of much-needed convention and room capacity,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the earmarked developments would see Fiji in the market for more investment opportunities.
“These developments will provide enormous opportunities for Fiji. These opportunities create stronger segmentation and must be managed carefully,” he said.
Commodore Bainimarama reassured guests at the awards night that the new casino resort and its 1500-seat state-of-the-art convention centre to be located on Denarau is set to open by October 1 this year.
“Given these developments, it is encouraging that marketing has been added as a new category for awards,” he said.
“I commend the trustees for this initiative. With the unprecedented and sustained funding of Tourism Fiji, the focused infrastructure development of roads, water, sewerage, airports, technology and collaboration with the private sector, it is imperative that the frontliners of Government services are aware of the importance of tourism to our economy.”
Commodore Bainimarama  thanked members of Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association for their contribution to the growth of the Fijian tourism industry.
