Beqa Adventure Divers were definitely recognised for hard work when they won the Sustainability Award at the AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards Friday night at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa, Denarau.
Beqa Adventure Divers director Mike Neumann said: “We are very honoured and grateful! In the end, success always boils down to one thing: a lot of hard work – there are no shortcuts there.
“But in our case, it is also a matter of never losing sight of the vision and of persevering in the face of many obstacles, for which the whole staff of Beqa Adventure Divers needs to be commended.”
He added that the win was clearly a team effort.
Beqa Adventure Divers promotes eco tourism as it runs it’s famous Beqa Lagoon Shark and Coral dives from Pacific Harbour.
Since the company’s inception in 2004, it has been pursuing an agenda of pairing tourism with research, conservation and co-operation with local communities at the grass roots level.
Mr Neumann said tourism was vital to the Fijian economy. However, he said that it is equally important to have the right kind of tourism.
“Fiji is blessed in that many generations of tourism pioneers and Governments have created an excellent and diverse portfolio of tourism attractions that appeal to a very wide spectrum of clients from the most diverse destinations.
“Going forward, the challenge will be to preserve the natural beauty and the ecological and cultural integrity of our beautiful islands as well as the quality of our products whilst always striving to grow our tourism portfolio.
“From what we can see, Government is committed to doing just that, for which it needs to be commended,” he said.
