Sixty kindergarten teachers from all over the country on holiday in Suva attended a three-day workshop this week at Nausori Primary School.
Workshop co-ordinator, Vaciseva Rarako, said the early childhood workshop was for teachers to go through the curriculum outlined in the “Na Noda Mataniciva”.
“The workshop’s objective is to help participants’ awareness of the Na Noda Mataniciva Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines for the Fiji Islands,” Mrs Rarako said.
She said the teachers had been reminded that because they’re dealing with early childhood students, they needed to co-operate with families, communities, school managements and other organisations to promote the health, safety and well-being of the children who are placed under their care.
The safety of the children while under their care, she said was stressed.
“Early childhood education is very important to the children who at this stage need careful guidance and teachers must not at one time dictate things to them.
“Children’s learning must progress at their own pace and that requires a lot of patience on the teacher’s part.”
After the three-day workshop all the participants received certificates.
