Five Indian experts have arrived into the country to help resolve the technical problems faced by our mills.
Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman Abdul Khan, yesterday confirmed their arrival and said they had started work at the Lautoka mill.
Mr Khan said the arrangement was part of the agreement reached by the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and his Indian counterpart, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh during their meeting in India during the International Sugar Organisation (ISO) meeting.
According to Mr Khan, the Fiji delegation led by Commodore Bainimarama visited sugar mills in the State of Punjab after the meeting.
“We visited some sugar mills and cane farms,” Mr Khan said.
“We specifically visited those mills that use the same machineries that were supplied to us. These machineries are working well there and hence the reason for engaging operator/trainers this coming season to resolve the problems faced by our mills in regards to these machines.”
Currently, the five experts are based at Lautoka and after the repair works they will then visit the other mills.
Mr Khan said the five men would be in the country until the crushing season ends.
The arrival of the experts, according to Mr Khan was a real boost to the sugar industry.
“We expect to have very little or no damage to the mills and this should have a positive impact on the production of all the four mills.”
“In terms of the mills, we specifically visited those mills that use the same machineries that were supplied to us.
“These machineries are working well there and hence the reason of engaging operator/trainers this coming season to resolve the problems faced by our mills in regards to these machines.”
