With regards to your headline Australia’s Fiji invasion plan [opinion by Graham Davis F/S June 10], what was the intent of the invasion of Australia;was it to overthrow the regime?
There was no reason for the invasion. The Fiji people know too well that the Australian and the Fiji people were close allies – any invasion would be received by the Fijians very resiliently.
I am sure the United Nations would have strong opposition to this; there would be also strong opposition from our Melanesian friends. It would also increase international and domestic opposition and also enhance the perceived stubbornness of the Australian government.
