Cook Islands lose ace netball shooter

By MERE NALEBA

The Cook Islands netball team while preparing for the Pacific Netball Series in New Zealand have suffered a major setback after their experienced player, Angela Tangimetua, pulled out.
Tangimetua was supposed to have teamed up with her daughter Eteta in the shooting circle for the side, but family commitments saw Angela pulling out of the competition.
“Angela has pulled out of the competition because they have migrated and they are expected to move on the dates of the tournament, so she withdrew from the squad,” Cook Islands Netball Association chief executive officer Teina Taulu said.
Taulu said the team that would take on Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the defending champions Fiji would be a mix of young and experienced players.
“With the mixture of talent and flair and a chance for our talented young ones to draw on the experience of our older players in strong competitive games, we are building our representative players base for the future,” she said.
The side is not only training for the PNS, but also for two Test matches lined up against Scotland and Wales when they return home after the four-day competition.
Eight of the 12 players named in their team are based in New Zealand, which should provide a better platform for the younger players.
The PNS is schedule from June 27-30 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
