Fiji Airport body targets Nauru

By LOSALINI RASOQOSOQO

Airports Fiji Limited (AFL) looks forward to the challenge of managing Nauruan air space, says AFL chairman, Adrian Sofield. Fiji has now taken over from New Zealand as AFL has the necessary equipment and expertise for the job. Fiji has also taken over management of Solomon Islands air space.
Mr Sofield says that this would bring in more money into the country and reduce costs to the Nauru government.
“We are looking at managing Nauru’s air space from New Zealand and also for Tonga as we were looking after it before New Zealand took over,” he said.
“We have purchased new and world class equipment which is the same technology used in Australia and New Zealand and is recognized by the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAAO).”
“We will take over the looking after Solomon Islands air space from next year from Australia and this shows the capability and advancement of Fiji’s aviation technology,” Mr Sofield said.
“Our navigation system is highly regarded and is very advanced. We want to be the best small airport in the world and the Pacific region.”
