Always look to a brighter future.
Those were the words of Fonua Talei who is the Fiji Sun’s queen contestant for this year’s Vodafone Hibiscus Festival.
Originally from Rukua in Beqa, Miss Talei is among the 14 contestants vying for the crown. She turns 20 on Wednesday.
Addressing the Fiji Sun staff and her family during a reception yesterday, the young journalist expressed how honoured and blessed she was to represent her employer.
She said she would take this opportunity as a challenge.
“I am proud to represent Fiji Sun at this year’s Hibiscus Festival and it is something that I would cherish in my heart forever,” Miss Talei said.
“I thank the staff of Fiji Sun for believing in me and I will work hard and try my best to make them proud.
“Knowing that I have the full support from the staff, family and friends will surely help me through the week long festival ahead.”
Miss Talei attended Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School in Suva before moving on the University of the South Pacific where she plans to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and Journalism.
She has maternal links to Natauloa, Nairai, in Lomaiviti. Miss Talei lists her hobbies as snorkelling, reading and socialising. Her mother, Annabelle Uluiviti Valemei, is proud to see her daughter participate in this year’s Hibiscus Festival.
“I am going to give my daughter my full motherly support,” Ms Valemei said.
Miss Talei joined the Fiji Sun newsroom as a cadet reporter last year while same time continuing her studies.
