Former National Under-20 and Naitasiri coach Eroni Vereivalu will guide the Assemblies of God High School Under-18 team.
The side will play in the Southern Zone Secondary School rugby semifinal against defending champions Suva Grammar School on Saturday.
Team manager Ramanu Civoniceva said the team was groomed by Vereivalu since they played in the U15.
“This team were winners of the Under 17 tier two last year and are now in U18 but 12 of these players are still in the U17 grade.
“We are preparing this team very well since the beginning of the year,”Civoniceva said.
“Our aim this year is to qualify for the national quarterfinals which will be a first time for us.”
AOG defeated SGS 8-3 during the pool rounds.
“Grammar has proven themselves over the years and we know very well the defending champions will come hard on us this time. But Vereivalu is working hard with the boys to provide SGS a tough game.”
Speaking to the players during training yesterday Vereivalu reminded them to play well and utilise their talents well.
“Gone are the days of Grammar, Marist and all those top schools now its AOG and you have to prove it. God has given you the talent and you should prove this Saturday,” Vereivalu said.
Civoniceva said they were fortunate to have a coach like Vereivalu.
AOG will play SGS in the first Under 18 semi final this Saturday while the other match will feature Marist and Nasinu.
