Suva is serious about winning the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament at Lautoka’s Churchill Park later this month.
The side rounded off their BOG preparations with a bang after defeating Nadroga 3-0 in the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League match at Lawaqa Park yesterday.
The Fiji FACT champion is confident of winning the BOG title away from the defending champions Rewa.
Suva Football president Mahendra Prasad says the win indicates how serious they are to win their second major tournament for this year.
“We are taking a serious approach to win the BOG and we are confident that we will come away victorious later this month,”Prasad said.
“We are doing all our basics right and we are firm on track.
“The win against Nadroga was a good build up for us heading into the tournament.”
Both sides were locked 0-0 at halftime.
But Suva came back firing in the second half to score three classic goals.
Suva’s FACT winning goal scorer Nathan Shivam drew first blood in the 71st minute, Joseph Mishra scored the second goal in the 75th minute and then in the 88th minute Samuela Drudru sealed the victory for Suva’s convincing win.
Suva is also trying hard to get Samuela Kautoga’s clearance to play for the side in the BOG.
“We are trying our best to get Kautoga’s clearance from his Vanuatu’s Amicable FC and we are optimistic of securing his release to feature in the BOG,” Prasad said.
“This will further strengthen the team for BOG as we have set our goals to win all the tournaments this year.”
Nadroga coach Abraham Watkins said Suva was a class team.
“We need to improve as we prepare for the BOG”, Watkins added.
Meanwhile, NFL games won’t be played this weekend as teams prepare for the BOG.
Round one of BOG will be played next weekend of July 21-22 at Subrail Park in Labasa while the tournament proper will be played at Churchill Park in Lautoka from July 26-29.
