Team Fiji officials yesterday visited Government House in Suva seeking the blessings of the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
They leave for the London Olympics next month.
While all the nine athletes are training overseas, the 14 officials of the different sports represented in the Olympics who were present to present their i-tatau.
“I wish you the very best and please represent the country with dignity and pride,” Ratu Epeli said.
“It is only right to seek the blessings of your fellow Fijians and the Government and I am thankful that you have sorted the blessings of your kinsmen.”
The nine athletes might even be lucky to have the President watching a few athletes compete in the Games, as he has plans of travelling to London later.
“You are all experienced athletes and have represented Fiji before in most major sporting tournaments, so you would know that you carry the hopes of the nation when you compete.
“The people of Fiji will not see the prospect of winning at the tournament, they want to see that you win and do well, so see their expectations as encouragement and not to hinder your game,” he said.
