The Fiji Hockey Federation will be introducing the State of Origin tournament at Nadovu Park in Lautoka next week.
Participating teams are Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Lami, Suva, Nausori and Levuka.
While the State of Origin is played between rugby league players in New South Wales and Queensland,
Fiji Hockey development officer Tai Smith said players have chances of representing other districts of origin.
“Players can play for their home districts and towns and not necessarily their current district,” Smith said.
“The Tings and Eastgates of Suva will have the opportunity of playing for their home district Ba while the Frazers will play for Lautoka.
“There are a lot more of the Suva reps who have opted to play in their home districts and I’m certain this will only serve to boost hockey in Fiji.”
Fiji Hockey is certain that the two days tourney will create a different atmosphere for hockey lovers.
“The weekend will have a carnival atmosphere, with lots of fun and the FHF hope to inject unity back into the sport.”
