The 2012 Vodafone Bula Festival float procession drew in a lot of people into Nadi town, as the 10 contestants vying for the Bula crown graced the streets yesterday.
The contestants rode on their sponsored floats and were escorted by police vehicles and also the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) band.
Vodafone Bula Festival president Titilia Vuataki said it was a wonderful opportunity to see people flocking into the tourist town to witness the float procession.
Mrs Vuataki said it was a great sight to see the different floats make their way through the town especially as the town was covered by water during the recent floods.
She said it was great to see the smiles on the children’s faces as they watched the contestants making their way through.
“Even though the flood had taken away most of the people’s hopes, the festival wanted to bring back the smiles on the faces of the people and to also restore that hope which was lost during the devastation,” Mrs Vuataki said.
Vodafone sponsorship manager Liga Gukisuva said whatever funds raised during the festival would go to the people of Nadi.
Mr Gukisuva said Vodafone was thankful for the great support shown in the past few days of the festival as it gave the people an opportunity to enjoy themselves after the natural disasters early this year.
He said Vodafone considered all the 10 queen contestants vying for the crown as winners as they had put in their time and effort to make the festival a successful one.
