Teamwork between the Elections Office and Ministry of Information has made it easier for people working at Government Buildings and nearby to resgister as voters.
A team from the Elections Office started registrations at the Ministry of Information’s media conference room on Wednesday.
Permanent Secretary for Information, Sharon Smith-Johns, said this was done to register the employees who had a busy workday and schedule and did not have time to go to other centres to register.
“Apart from the civil servants, members of the public including corporate organisations within the area will also find the location more convenient because of its proximity,” she said.
“With Prime Minister and Minister for Information, Voreqe Bainimarama, registering first, our ministry decided to take the initiative also by co-ordinating with the Elections Office to have an EVR team based here at Government Buildings for the next two weeks.”
Meanwhile, the total registrations recorded in all Voter Registration Centres (VRCs) on Wednesday alone were 22,251.
This brought the provisional grand total of the registration to 152,758 so far.
VCR’s in the Central Division recorded 9209 registrations on Wednesday, with current registrations of 68,037.
The Western Division VCR’s registered 7693 people on the day with 51,010 people so far.
The North VCR’s registered 28,927 people in total, including 4761 on Wednesday.
