The Labasa soccer team booked a spot in the final of the 2012 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament after defeating Nadi 1-0 at Churchill Park yesterday.
The Babasiga Lions goal was initiated by skipper Apisalome Turuva resulting in Nadi scoring an own goal.
Turuva is confident of another triumph in the final when the dust settles at Churchill Park today.
“God made the victory possible for us and we acknowledge Him for this victory,”Turuva said.
“It was a tough game and as captain, I have to lead by example.
“Also I want to acknowledge our sponsors Punjas, Suva and the Labasa fans.”
The Babasiga Lions with Kema Jack, Wira Wama and Maciu Dunadamu played well upfront.
Pressure mounted on both sides as many yellow cards were flashed in the first half seeing Labasa Kavaia Rawaqa and Nadi Ratu Josefata Dugucagi cautioned. Halftime: Labasa 0 Nadi 0.
In the second half, both teams were down to 10 men as Rawaqa and Dugucagi were both flashed red cards. Labasa maintained intensity resulting in an own goal scored. Fulltime: Labasa 1 Nadi 0

“The boys played much better than during the Fiji FACT,”Swamy said.
“They have improved a lot. I congratulate the players and officials of Nadi for believing in these players and Imdad Ali and me to work on with this team. We can only perform much better in future.
“We execute our game plan well, I think we created more chances but luck was just not on our side.” Swamy said.
Labasa coach Epeli Levaci said winning the semifinal was crucial for them.
“We have to win,”Levaci said. But we need to keep the discipline and maintain our composure in the final on Sunday.”
