The Sanatan World Cup soccer starts in Vancouver, Canada today.
The Sanatan Dharam Sports and Cultural Association of B.C (Fiji) organised tournament will be played at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, British Columbia and ends on Sunday.
Defending champions New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, Canada and United States have confirmed their participation.
Association chairman/vice-president Salendra Kumar says Vancouver is ready to host the athletes.
“All the preparations are complete and we now anticipate the arrival of the teams and the kickoff to the tournament,” Kumar told SUNsports.
He said there’s been a lot of hype about the World Cup and as the host nation it will be the best organised tournament in its eight year existence.
“I can assure the players and the travelling fans of a fun-filled family atmosphere during the meet.”
It is the first time the World Cup is being held in Vancouver, Canada.
Fiji, New Zealand, Australia and United States have previously hosted the tournament.
Kumar said all the teams have lined up top players for the cultural bragging rights.
“New Zealand has always been a strong side. But, Australia, Fiji, United States and Canada will be top contenders as well.
“As hosts, Vancouver will have an extraordinary presentation to the delegation as this World Cup will have such a big social and cultural display for the duration the games,” Kumar said.
The Sanatan World Cup is played every other year; it brings Fijians from five countries together for a sporting event.
