The Fiji Cancer Society on Friday received a donation of $4000 from BSP Life, Fiji’s leading life and health insurance company.
BSP Life’s donation was presented by the company’s Sports and Social Club who helped raise the funds internally. The cheque was presented by the club president, Mitieli Waqa who stated that, “I am humbled to make this donation on behalf of BSP Life to the Fiji Cancer Society.” He added that, “This donation is about protecting life and that is what we’re all about as an organisation. It is really an honour to be part of the Biggest Morning Tea drive. We all know how dreadful this sickness is but we hope and pray that this donation will make a difference for our friends in their fight against cancer.”
Malakai Naiyaga, BSP Life’s managing director said the initiative was part of the company’s efforts to assist members of the community who were struggling with life. “Since our rebranding to BSP Life we have launched a number of community projects including a health walk to assist with the fight against non-communicable diseases, a mangrove-planting project in Muaivuso, two in-house blood drives, distributed flood relief packs in the West and recently joined the battle against cancer.”
Fiji Cancer Society president Nirmala Nambiar was full of appreciation for the timely gesture which she believed would assist them further. In her response, Ms Nambiar thanked BSP Life for their contribution and also highlighted that they were also looking for volunteers to provide extra hands and resources in their fight against cancer.
