Namosi regained its spot in the major ranks of the Fiji Rugby Union competition after defeating Rewa 43-6 in the GP Batteries promotion/relegation match yesterday.
Rewa took an early 3-0 lead but Namosi controlled the game throughout in a one-sided affair at Ratu Cakobau Park.
Coach Timoci Wainiqolo saluted the players for their gallant performance.
“They played their hearts out to win and I’m proud of them,” Wainiqolo said.
Rewa had only themselves to blame for the loss as indiscipline cost them as four players were shown cards with two given red cards.
Namosi bolstered with seasonal sevens reps in Ilai Tinai, Lepani Botia, Joji Ragamate and Setefano Cakau played a key role in the win.
Former national sevens and 15s rep Sailosi Naiteqe also played well at number eight.
The win was a memorable victory for former national sevens and 15s rep, Wainiqolo who was appointed the coach of the side earlier this year.
Namosi dedicated the win to Botia’s son who is recovering at the hospital and to their manager who will be leaving to Sudan in few weeks time for the peacekeeping duties.
“The win is dedicated to Botia, our sevens manager and to the people of Namosi for their support,” Wainiqolo said.
“We are looking forward to play in the major union and we are confident that we will do well next year in the major union.”
Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua said the players have made the people of Namosi proud.
“The win has united the people of Namosi and we are proud of the players.”
Rewa team manager Inia Tiboi said indiscipline cost them the game.
Namosi led 24-6 at halftime.
