The Makoi Bulldogs barked the loudest at Buckhurst Park yesterday.
This was after they won for the first time the Fiji National Rugby League premier prize, the Vodafone Cup.
It was an emotional moment for all the Bulldogs fans, families, players and most of all, their coach Maika Vunivere.
A long journey of hardship, sweat and tears has paid off as they skinned the Sabeto Roosters in a close final 12-10.
Vunivere says they had to change their attitude to win the silverware. As pressure mounted and the Roosters couldn’t keep their cool anymore, the Bulldogs stuck to the task on hand and delivered on the day.
“We have been trying for 10 years and I keep reminding the players that it is possible,” Vunivere said.
“We thank each and every family that supported the team- Akei Sarasau, Jone Wesele for giving money to feed the team and to Makoi congregation for praying for the team.
“This win is dedicated to our teammates who were injured during the season, Roger Korolutu, Misaele Volau and Filipe Bogi.”
Vunivere and his team didn’t forget to thank the one person that also believed in them and sponsored and outfitted the side, Fair Trade boss Pravin Chand and his family.
