School gets makeover

By LITIA MATHEWSELL

A new learning environment at Ratu Ilaisa Memorial School has aroused optimism among the students.
Located in Semo, Nadroga, the school received a major upgrade by a group of visiting Canadians volunteers.
The group is from Foresters, an international life insurance provider, visiting Fiji for their annual Forresters Destination programme to identify top sales agents.
Under the Forester’s Delivering the Difference programme, 250 volunteers spent time assembling and painting new desks, tables, bookshelves and donating sets of backpacks filled with shoes and toothbrushes, amongst other personal items.
The gesture was received with gratitude from the school community, with school principal Mosese Volavola commending the efforts after the school was severely damaged during the floods in March.
“The children of our community will benefit immensely from both the new furniture and personal items,” Mr Volavola said. “The new surroundings will enable to us to offer an enhanced educational experience and will provide an uplifting experience for the children and their families.”
