There has been a backlog of Government- funded projects at district level in the Northern Division, it was revealed last week.
Some projects have lagged behind by two years.
The revelation surfaced during the Macuata Provincial Council meeting at Naduri Village last week.
Some district representatives expressed grave concern against the progress of development projects.
Strategic Framework for Change Northern Coordinator, Kisoko Cagituevei, said it would be pointless for Government to provide development materials for the people if they were not taking initiative to fully implement projects.
Some district representatives claimed that Government funded projects in some areas had been put on hold for the past two years.
Mr Cagituevei said this had to be improved or Government-funded projects would be erased.
He said it was the role of district representatives and the people to utilise materials provided by Government to develop villages.
These included community halls, water sources, housing and toilets.
Mr Cagituevei said a lot of projects had been left half-completed and neglected.
“If we cannot help ourselves then it would be impossible for others to help us.
“We are now preaching about changes Government is making on the need to monitor Government-funded development projects,” said Mr Cagituevei.
He told chiefs and district representatives of Macuata that all Government ministries and agencies would be monitored and assessed on the implementation of all the objectives of the roadmap.
“Development cannot take place, if we do not monitor operations. It is important that district meetings need to be frequently done where issues should be ironed out.”
Mr Cagituevei said where Government-funds are used, projects would be monitored so that they are carried out and completed on time.
“We are here to make sure that Government funds are put to good use. We cannot continue to receive development materials from Government if we don't monitor projects and complete it accordingly."
The Public Service Commission has a new department which facilitates the implementation work for the Roadmap and the Strategic Framework for Change.
