Study help stays - PM

11/27/2009

Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, has denied reports of the scrapping of Government scholarships that prefers a particular race.

When asked if Government has plans to combine all Government scholarships into one, Mr Bainimarama said only if they say so, then it is going to happen.

However, there has been no such revelation on this from him.

He said people should not believe everything they hear or read and to stay off the blog sites.

His comments came days after senior Government officials revealed that Government plans to do away with the Fijian Affairs and Multi-Ethnic Affairs Scholarships.

However, they have proposed a scholarship with a common name.

This is in line with Government’s reform for a common name for all Fiji citizens irrespective of ethnic and religious representations.

Government will prioritise the requirements for scholarship application which means that race-based entry qualification for scholarship programmes will be removed.
