7s reps hit form

11/30/2009

Lepani Nabuliwaqa and William Ryder impress at the Carlton Sri Lanka 7s in Colombo.

Digicel 7s manager Alifereti Malo says the duo should be in top in Dubai this weekend.

The Fijians beat Australian Legends 29-5, South African Vipers 28-0 and later Western Samoa Barbarians 31-5.

Malo says the duo combined well with the other players. The team management expects the duo to be in peak form for the first leg of the 2009-10 IRB Sevens Series in Dubai.

“They were good and had some couple of devastating runs. William scored a couple tries against South Africa Viper and Lepani also scored a try.

“They have readjusted themselves and I have no doubt that they will be at their best,” Malo said.

At the Dubai 7s the Iliesa Tanivula coached side is in Pool B with rivals Samoa, Zimbabwe and Scotland. Malo says the Sri Lanka 7s was a perfect hit out before series.

“The whole idea of coming here is to get some match fitness and the coach can work on some different combinations. “We have gained match fitness and there are no injuries as well,” he said.

He said the team will travel from Sri Lanka to Dubai. He says the move will save them valuable time.

“It is convenient to travel from Sri Lanka to Dubai rather than a 24-hour trip from Fiji,” Malo said.

The Digicel Fiji side played New Zealand Legends and later Waisale Serevi coached Papua New Guinea side alte last night.
