City project to start soon

Construction work on the multi-million dollar Nakasi Satellite City is expected to begin in April.

The proposed city will be situated in the Sauniwaqa subdivision, Nasinu.

Fiji based Dong- A Holding (Fiji) Limited will facilitate this project.

Company public relations officer Jone Tuiono said the company was awaiting approval from the Town and Country Planning Department before construction work began.

“Plans for this project are on time and we hope that the first stage of the project will begin as early as April,” he said.

Mr Tuiono said construction work would be carried out by a local company through a tender process.

“All projects for the city will be carried out by local companies and this will be through a tender process that will be advertised in the newspaper once approval is finalised,” he said.

The company was earlier offered a 10-year development lease by the Native Land Trust Board to develop Sauniwaqa Subdivision.

This subdivision will be the location of the first stage of the project - a residential development.

The residential project will be able to house 34,000 people.

Expected population for this residential type projects are;

l Detached house - 3270 persons;

l Apartment House - 5320 persons

l Residential House - 28,850 persons

Mr Tuiono said this development would be one of its kind in the Pacific.

“They’re looking at developing something that is world class, something that has never been done before,” he said.

“The city will be blending premier state of the art technology integrating with modern high-tech engineering designs.”

The Nakasi Satellite City will include a number of projects such as Information technology business, Academy for Driving School, Hospital and Medical School, Golf Course, Parking Area, Botanical gardens, supermarket, chain of restaurants , department stores to name a few.

Another development initiative will be Fiji Museum and Folk Village.

This will host a Fiji Museum and Community Support, Fiji Sugar Museum, Fiji Water Museum and a Fiji Aquarium Museum to name few.
