Faith healing

3/10/2010

Reference is made to comments-misinterpretations made about my comments regarding faith healers in your paper, by two writers - one Savenaca Vaka and a Rahul Kaur (F/S 03/03/2010).

Here are the facts as I responded to the journalist who interviewed me on the subject.

Asked if I could comment on the success rate of faith healers, I responded that I could not comment on it as I have no experience in the area.

But I did say and do believe sincerely that patients should not neglect medical attention in favour of faith healers. There are enough and very good reasons for the same.

Yes, God is the supreme healer - absolutely no doubt about that.

There maybe a few individuals with some special healing powers but there are stories galore about the practices of most others and there’s no need to go into those details.

So patients need to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary exploitation by unscrupulous elements in society.

For all health problems seeking medical advice-attention should be the priority, whatever else one does.

Hope this clears the air.
