Recently I was visiting my pregnant wife admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital with my two- year-old son because there was no one to look after him at home.
What surprised me was the so-called professional advice from a particular security officer on duty at the front desk during visiting hours.
He bluntly denied our entry justifying that rules are rules and no flexibility is exercised.
I strongly believe that the best people to determine visiting status of any inpatient should be the doctors and the nurses who are truly professionals in their field of work.
Upon several requests he offered another advice for me to leave my two-year-old with anyone outside the hospital. That is ridiculous.
Well, I was stuck between nowhere as my wife was bed-ridden due to her medical state and here I was with the security officer.
I was carrying her change and toiletries but he was just inconsiderate.
This security officer was overemphasing the Rules but his outlook and conduct was so unprofessional.
I would like to request the authorities to please advise these security officers to at least consult the nurses before bluntly dishing out their unproffesional advice.
I would like to thank the hardworking doctors and nurses at the hospital as one particular sister informed the security officer of my wife’s condition after which I was allowed in but with the stern warning, “15 minutes only boy”.
Please, it’s always professional to be polite.
Once again thank you sister for your professional and polite approach unlike the security officer who I am sure is not a qualified medical advisor. God bless you all.
