Northern Air Services Charters Limited plans to compete with lone domestic service provider Pacific Sun on its domestic routes.
The airline in a statement said “Northern Air wants to improve and we want to do so in the domestic route.
“The company is hopeful that with its emergence in the domestic air services, we should make a difference in terms of domestic air service costs.
“The Suva - Labasa and Savusavu route is something we will look at.”
Northern Air is awaiting approval from the Civil Aviation Authority on its attempt to attain a hanger at the Nausori Airport.
“It has been two years we have been trying to get a hanger at the Nausori airport and once we have secured a space then we will be able to move forward with our operation,” the statement said.
“We need a hanger facility so that our airplanes can be maintained.
“Northern Air has Fiji at heart and wished to grow and to become profitable in the Fiji market.”
The airline said medical evacuation is its core interest and would continue to provide affordable air services with its operations costs in mind.
“The company considers the life of individuals as important and this is why it will continue to improve on its core functions.”
Civil Aviation director Akuila Waradi said Northern is already is extensive and in-depth consultation with the Civil Aviation Authority on its intentions.
“This consultation re-confirming compliance with airworthiness and air safety requirements as stipulated in our Air Navigation Regulations.
“The Civil Aviation Authority For the Fiji Islands after the technical regulation of air operations within Fiji’s airspace including the certification of airworthiness of aircrafts, proper registration of aircrafts, the certification of pilots, engineers, the issuance of air operators certificate.”
