Call for 1 scholarship scheme

3/10/2010

State scholarships are still being given on racial lines but that must change, the People’s Charter says.

National Charters Advisory Council chairman, Josefa Seruilagilagi said they would recommend “just one scholarship for everybody rather than dividing them up into racial components”.

He made the comment following the second meeting of the charter advisory council in Suva yesterday.

“What we have done is to get the secretariat to brief us on progress of the charter work in 2009 and to tell us what is planned for 2010,” he said.

“The council is now divided into sub-committees: one for social, one for finance and one for good governance.

“The sub-committees will be meeting to discuss issues that are raised by the secretariat.”

The advisory council meeting will be before the end of April.
