Lautoka sings the Blues over Tavua

3/11/2010

Weet-Bix Shop N Save Lautoka striker, Kamal Hassan scored five goals in their 7-0 win over a plucky Tim Tam Tavua at Churchill Park last night.

Hassan was the toast of the side, scoring the most number of goals in a match in the Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix National Football League.

The win propelled the Blues back to the top of the table ahead of Puma Labasa who had taken pole position last weekend while Lautoka was committed to the O-League.

Lautoka will get a chance to extend its lead in the Fiji league when they meet Nivea National Hire Nasinu at the TFL National Stadium in Suva on Sunday.

Lautoka soccer president, Shalendra Prasad, was disappointed with the high rate of goals they missed against a lowly rated side like Tavua.

Prasad said they should have scored more goals given the calibre of players in the side.

“For an experienced team like Lautoka, seven goals was not enough against an inexperienced side like Tavua,” he said.

“The win has given us the lead on the points table and we remain unbeaten but our players could have done much better.

“Our finishing was not on par. We should have scored more goals.

“We need to work on our finishing and we hope things work out well in our next match.

“We are confident of beating Nasinu on Sunday.”

Tavua goalkeeper, Josaia Ratu, kept the hosts at bay with Osea Vakatalesau scoring the only goal of the first half from the penalty spot.

It took Lautoka 43 minutes to break the deadlock after replacement; Arvindra Naidu was brought down inside the penalty box.

In the second half, the floodgates opened with Samuela Vula scoring the second goal before Hassan went on a goal scoring spree.
