League manager here to stay

3/11/2010

Newly appointed Fiji National Rugby League general manager, Stephen McLellan, is set to start work soon.

League chairman, Peni Musunamasi, said McLellan, who arrived into the country last week, have received his work permit.

“We are thankful to the Government for that and we look forward to utilising his expertise in conducting developments at grassroots level and raise the FNRL community awareness profile,” he said.

Musunamasi said McLellan was in charge of three academies in New South Wales which had teams touring Fiji every October where they play for the Tagitupou Tanoa.

McLellan was given the post last year and is not new to rugby league in Fiji.

Musunamasi said McLellan who was a former development officer with FNRL, would be an asset.

“He is not new to FNRL, maybe to the atmosphere but he has looked after many country clubs and he brings back with him a lot of experience.”

“The load is getting bigger now and with him in, is a big boost to FNRL.”

Meanwhile, the FNRL board will have their Annual General Meeting on March 26. McLellan will be the first GM after the FNRL was running with Volunteers since.
