The Fiji Sun scooped four awards at the fourth annual Fiji Media Awards for Excellence at a gala ceremony on Saturday night.
This included the Robert Keith-Reid Award for Outstanding Journalism awarded to Publisher Russel Hunter and Fiji Sun columnist, Victor Lal.
More than 400 guests from the media and advertising industry were present at the awards to witness the biggest night of the year where the best in the Fiji media were hounoured.
In the Colonial Print Awards, Fiji Sun’s Kelera Serelini scooped the Best News Report on an article titled ‘They killed my baby’, the Best Photograph titled ‘My father’s Innocent’ was awarded to Sharum Ali and Best Page Lay-out titled ‘Bring on Tahu’ was awarded to Ajeshwar Raj.
Mr Hunter who is based in Australia said while he regretted not being part of the team to celebrate another milestone in the company’s development, he was still a very proud man.
FAME chairman Joel Sahai said more than 350 entries were received vying for the 54 awards worth more than $14,000 in prize money.
Mr Sahai said it was very successful judging by the record numbers of those attending the awards ceremony.
At the awards night, Fiji Media Council chairman Daryl Tart reminded guests and entrants that FAME was about rewarding the pursuit of excellence in the industry.
“The judges have had a very tough job and I am pleased that they have demanded high standards of the winners because that is what FAME is all about,” said Mr Tarte.
Mr Sahai acknowledged the partnership they had with the Fiji Advertising Association as they jointly organised the event.
Other major awards include: Colonial Print Journalist of the Year- Stanley Simpson, Vodafone Radio Journalist of the Year- Vijay Narayan, Television Journalist of the Year- Anish Chand, CMDA Business Journalist of the Year- Stanley Simpson, TFL Student Journalist of the Year- Riteshni Singh, Best Radio Advertisement of the Year- Dave Lavaki, Vodafone Best TV Advertisement of the Year- Art & Soul and TFL Best Radio Advertising Campaign of the Year- Razor and Best Print Advertisement of the year Razor.
